Past and Current BTA/WPC Safe Routes to School Projects
Albany/Corvallis
BTA/WPC helped the City of Albany establish a partnership to provide community-based Bicycle Safety Education courses in schools and is providing Walk+Bike to School Day technical assistance, resources and incentives to all participating schools.
Beaverton
BTA/WPC worked with City engineering staff to establish a pilot program at Greenway Elementary School for encouragement, education, enforcement and engineering activities during the 2005-06 school year. In addition, we are offering Bicycle Safety Education courses in schools and providing Walk+Bike to School Day technical assistance, resources and incentives to all participating schools.
Bend
BTA/WPC is working with the City of Bend, Commute Options, school district representatives and community members to develop a citywide Safe Routes to School project. We provide Walk+Bike to School Day technical assistance, resources and incentives to all participating schools, and are working with Commute Options to establish local management of Bicycle Safety Education courses.
Eugene
BTA/WPC is collaborating with the city, community members, schools and local bike shops and manufacturers to develop encouragement and education activities that inspire community buy-in and improve safety knowledge. We offer Bicycle Safety Education and provide Walk+Bike to School Day technical assistance, resources and incentives to participating schools.
Lake Oswego
BTA/WPC is helping establish encouragement and education programs citywide and providing Walk+Bike to School Day technical assistance, resources and incentives to all participating schools.
Portland
BTA/WPC is serving as Project Manager for the City of Portland’s Safe Routes to Schools program. We are spearheading development of a comprehensive Safe Routes to School program and providing technical support for a 5-year pilot program at eight elementary schools: Vestal, Buckman, Boise-Eliot, Prescott, Bridlemile, Lewis, Gilbert Park, and one to be determined.
In the spring of 2005, BTA/WPC created and implemented a successful Walk+Bike Wednesdays program at three pilot schools in spring 2005: Buckman Elementary, Sunnyside Environmental, Fernwood Middle School.
BTA/WPC provides Walk+Bike to School Day technical assistance, resources and incentives to participating schools, and the BTA offers Bicycle Safety Education courses in 12 participating schools.
Rogue Valley
BTA/WPC is working with cities, schools and community groups in the Rogue Valley to initiate collaboration on Safe Routes to School programs. We offer Bicycle Safety Education courses and provide Walk+Bike to School Day technical assistance, resources and incentives to all participating schools.
Salem
BTA/WPC is working with students from Jane Goodall Environmental Middle School who are spearheading Safe Routes to School activities. We offer Bicycle Safety Education courses and provide technical assistance, resources and incentives to all participating schools.
Vancouver, WA
BTA/WPC is working with City officials to provide technical advice and assistance to schools in the Vancouver area, and provide training and materials for Youth Bicycle Safety Education.
Bainbridge Island, WA
BTA/WPC provided Walk+Bike to School Day training, and may provide technical support and training for a pilot Safe Routes to School project.
